I continue to take acting classes because I never want to disconnect from the experience of memorizing lines, setting blocking, learning who I am as a character, and synthesizing all of it for performance. This week in class, I met my classmates and scene partners. I did a mechanical read of the text (completely flat and robotic--almost intoned reading) with my scene partners and we discussed some of the personalization methods for a scene as well as guidelines from the class. These are some of the take-away comments from my week 1:
Hello, Cast!
I have been traveling and then very ill, so I have been unable to set up meetings before now. If you check the schedule (the calendar for the fall play), I have scheduled some drop-in meetings. What are they? These are meetings to address learning lines or understanding text from the play. You can stay just a little while or the entire time. I am setting the meetings on the front lawn of Lane. If it rains, I will move them to Starbucks, but I am trying to check the forecast before scheduling. If no one comes to a meeting, I will use the time to learn my own lines for my acting class. This will be a blog for materials relating to the play or to art of acting. If you would like to post something, please send it to me first. Best, Ms. Meacham PS. Learn your lines. PPS. The following image is funny (to me, at least) and is from American Theatre Magazine. |
Blithe SpiritHere are posts relating to the fall play. I will also post quotations from classes I take or articles I come across. Feel free to use comments to ask questions or comment on scenes. Archives
